Organizational Behavior

Content

Why do employees and managers in organizations sometimes behave differently (and often more irrationally) than expected? For example, what role do emotions play in the motivation of organizational members? Why do some people work more efficiently under stress, while others experience health or work-related problems?
These and related questions are addressed in this module. After attending the course, the students will know the basics of Organizational Behavior. They learn to describe the basic theories and models and to apply them to concrete practical questions. The course focuses on the micro-level (e.g. motivation theories, job satisfaction, cognitive distortions in perception, emotions) and meso-level (e.g. political games in organisations, effective cooperation and conflicts in groups and project teams, team composition and diversity, decision making in teams) of organisational behavior.

Course goals

After participating in this module, you should be able:

  • To describe and critically discuss central theories of organizational behavior
  • To describe, critically discuss and compare empirical findings on the phenomena and theories dealt with
  • To apply this knowledge to practical questions and concrete case studies
